MCHP went on their first vaccination trip for the 2023-24 school year! On Dec. 10 and Jan. 20, MCHP visited the Care to the Least Center (CLC) to vaccinate against the Hepatitis B disease.
Members of MCHP with the assistance from certified medical nurses carried out the vaccination of children at the Care to the Least Center (CLC) orphanage. During the trip, members of MCHP educated CLC about the Hepatitis B disease, ways to prevent contracting the disease, as well as the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of Hepatitis B. Through doing so, MCHP was able to fulfill its goals set in the beginning of the year to spread further awareness about Hepatitis to our local community. Furthermore, the members of MCHP then interacted with the children of CLC while they were getting vaccinated as well as handed out some snacks for the children when they finished getting their first dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine.
This trip helped us further realize how impactful vaccinating children against Hepatitis B has on our local community and how it contributes to service learning. By conducting this trip, we ourselves learnt more about the Hepatitis B virus and have become aware of how vital vaccination is in protecting against disease. MCHP looks forward to the next two vaccinated trips that will be conducted at CLC as well as many more in the upcoming school year.
